Another critical connection is between the northern end of the Riverfront Trail at Cox landing to Chehaw Park. This segment is only a mile long but provides a safe route along busy Philema Road. It will go under the bridge across Lake Worth and loop back up to the north side of Philema where a multi-purpose trail will pass apartment complexes and businesses as it leads to Chehaw Park.
Chehaw is a regional attraction bringing in visitors from across the southeast. In addition to day visitors, there are several campsites in the park. Campers often bring their bicycles and would visit downtown Albany if there were a safe route to get them there. In addition, Chehaw’s 11 miles of mountain bike trails create an attraction that more cyclists would use if they could get there without having to take their bikes there with an automobile.
